A lithographic print portraying a transgender guardian angel in the Arizona desert, a location where many immigrants have tragically lost their lives. Crossing the U.S.-Mexico border is a dangerous journey, yet many make the journey in search of safety and new opportunities. For transgender individuals looking to transition or live as their true selves, they take a significant risk to embark on this journey. This image seeks to shift perspectives on gender roles and transgender individuals by reimagining a religious figure to embody a transgender identity.  
 
Nuestra Tierra Trans was developed through the Tipping Point Project, a partnership between the City of Albuquerque and the Tamarind Institute. The print was made in collaboration with Tamarind student printer Lindsey Sigmin. The print is now part of the City of Albuquerque Public Art Collection, Tamarind’s Archive, and the University of New Mexico Art Museum.
