Community-based
Art Projects

Community lies at the heart of my work. My work centers people as the experts of their own stories, and I build relationships with my community to learn about their stories, identities, and the places they call home. I capture images and gather visuals that represent their stories, which become the basis of my artwork. Participants' written stories are included in the artwork, and they’re encouraged to share more about their experiences during exhibitions.

The first set of masks and capes has been created for six athletes from diverse backgrounds and sports based in New Mexico. This project aims to challenge and transform harmful narratives about trans and queer individuals in sports through art, culture, and conversation.

The artwork's design was inspired by discussions I facilitated in workshops throughout New Mexico. The workshops gathered immigrant and LGBTQ+ individuals to discuss the challenges faced by each community and foster solidarity between them. Afterward, the workshops and artwork were displayed in New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado.
